Travel Advice

If you’re travelling to Zambia, our up-to-date travel advice gives you practical tips on what to bring, how to dress, climate and other essentials for your trip.

How to dress

During the day light clothes such as t-shirts and shorts are the right choice.
Evenings may require a light jacket during the summer months, preferably with full length sleeves.
In winter, (June, July & August), heavier clothing is necessary as the nights do get cold.

How long to stay

We suggest our guests stay three nights. This is an ideal time so that guests may enjoy all the activities they wish to do both at the lodge and in Livingstone whilst also having some time to relax and rejuvenate. Stays of two nights are feasible but we often find guests feel they wish they could have stayed just one more night.

Drinking water

The lodge provides bottled water in the rooms, the lodge and during activities.

What to bring

It is important to remember items like a hat, sunglasses, swimming costume, sunscreen and insect repellent as well as the following:

Bring your camera and plenty of digital memory cards.
Binoculars are a must.
Sandals for walking around Victoria Falls as footwear often gets wet.
A waterproof bag for your camera whilst viewing Victoria Falls is very useful.
Light raincoat or poncho for summer months
Basic Medical Kit
Torch/flashlight
Walking shoes

Health

Ensure that you bring an adequate supply of any prescription medication that you may require as they may not be available close to the lodge.
Malaria prophylactics should be taken before, during and after visiting the Zambezi River areas.
Consult your doctor or the nearest travel clinic for advice.

Travelers are advised to check with their travel agent if they are flying to or from Zambia through any South African airport as they may be required to obtain a Yellow Fever inoculation.

Electricity

The Tintswalo Siankaba lodge is connected to the national grid.
The electricity supply is 240 Volts.
The square shaped three pin British standard plugs are used.
The lodge has a full back-up generator.

Airport Transfers

Tintswalo Siankaba will arrange transfers from the following airports:

Livingstone International Airport (Zambia)
Victoria Falls International Airport (Zimbabwe)
Kasane Airport (Botswana)

Staff Gratuities

Our staff has a shared tip box as we believe the entire team is responsible ‘for going the extra mile’ and we suggest between $5 and $10 per person per day is extremely generous. If our guests feel they have received outstanding service from an individual then management would encourage them to tip that individual directly.

Medical Assistance

We encourage guests to have adequate medical insurance cover whilst they are travelling – this is critical to expedite treatment of conditions or accidents that may occur. We are covered for Specialty Emergency Service cover whilst our guests are at the lodge and their team of highly trained and professional paramedics can assist with stabilization and evacuation if required.

Changing Money

The currency in Zambia is the Zambian Kwacha which is the only currency which may be used in the country. It is not possible to purchase Kwacha outside of Zambia but the local currency is available from all cash-point (ATM) machines as well as from banks and foreign exchange bureaus at all major ports of entry. In general, only Visa credit cards are accepted at ATMs and in some cases debit cards. PIN numbers and passports will be required where applicable.
